Dracut East KO'd in Pony playoffs
The Lowell Sun

DRACUT -- There are no local teams playing for Suburban Pony League titles this summer, as 14-15 Division top seed Dracut East dropped a tough 7-6 decision to visiting Reading Red in the deciding game of their best-of-3 semifinal round playoff series last night at the Dracut High JV field.

The setback gave Reading a 2-1 series victory and left Dracut East with a final overall record of 19-5. Reading will launch a best-of-3 championship series tomorrow at Andover Gold.

In the 13-year-old Division, Chelmsford's 9-8 loss to Lynnfield on Sunday ousted the final local survivor.

Chelmsford also lost the series opener by 1 run, 11-10, before forcing a winner-take-all finale with a 10-4 triumph.

Lynnfield and Reading square off in the finals beginning tonight.

But Dracut rallied to score 4 runs in the bottom of the second to tie it, and the locals pushed across a run in the fourth for a 6-5 advantage.

Reading responded with the game's final 2 tallies in the sixth, and East left the tying run in scoring position in the seventh.

Smacking 2 hits each for Dracut were Kyle Adie (RBI double), Andrew Larmand (RBI double), Aaron Barbosa (RBI) and Mike Bergeron.

David Parent and Justin Deneu both contributed a run-scoring single.

Larmand was the hard-luck losing pitcher after tossing 5 innings of 3-hit relief with 6 strikeouts. He allowed only 1 earned run.
